Paper, not screenshots
A page you pull out of a PDF stays a reference to its document — never a bitmap. Text stays selectable, highlights anchor to the source passage, and every copy of the page shows the same marks. Delete a page and undo it: it returns to its document, membership and all.
Originals live once in private storage; pages are references.
See where everyone is looking
Cursors, selections and even the passage someone has selected are visible to the whole desk, in each person's colour. Click an avatar to see exactly what they see; any participant can take control, and a projector follows whoever presents.
Accounts and guests share one desk — a guest needs only the link and a name.

Change it — or propose it
Flip one switch and your edits become a proposal instead: drawn over the desk as a dashed preview, applied only when the group accepts it, whole or not at all. Every change lands in an append-only history you can scrub, preview and restore — nothing is ever deleted.
Undo, suggestions and rewind share the same operation log.
Your journal club deserves a better table.
